Fitness report: Writing is sedentary work. And with life happening at a frantic pace, I’ve been busy and overwhelmed at times, … to the point of neglecting my personal fitness. At any age that’s not a good thing, but at 68 it’s not something I can afford to ignore. These days, in a good week, I’m lucky to get to the gym twice. Three times a week has been a good but rarely executed intention.
On that front, I had two wake-up calls this week. the first came when I over-did it working in the yard. Yard work is great exercise, but it had been a while, and I hurt myself. Nothing serious, thank God, and I’m about over it already. But all the same, it was a mild wake-up call to step-up my gym attendance.
The second was a jarring wake-up call. It came the other day when a close friend of mine fell on her front lawn and broke her wrist and femur. Surgery required. She’s 75 years old and remarkably healthy, but her life has now been upended for the next six months at least. Please take a moment to send up a prayer for her 🙏.
What struck me is how easily her bones broke. She has never been diagnosed with osteo-anything, but she is now hospitalized with multiple fractures and looking at months of recovery.
As a retired fitness trainer, I know that weight-bearing exercise strengthens bones. I’m the last person you’d expect to be lazy about working out, but I am. Rest assured I’ll be back in the gym today doing farmer carries.
What’s my favorite number from now on? Three. Three times a week from now on! Hold me to it dear readers.
My latest garden thrill. Check it out! It’s tiny but so SWEET!
I never toss a pineapple top. They take forever to produce, but they always do, and they’ll grow in anything, pots or in the ground. Right now, I have close to a dozen plants with another new fruit in the making. The great thing about pineapples is they can be clustered together with several to a container. The top from my new baby pineapple will share a planter with my amaryllis and canna lilies.
My book news: Before the end of the year (only 3 1/2 months away!), The second edition of my booklet, Jesus: God of the Burning Bush, Eternal Father & Beloved Son, will be available on Amazon. Right now, you can get it on Lulu.
Author highlight: For those of you who love romance novels, here’s a good one. A debut novel by V.R. Biwott. I read it. I loved it. It’s a contemporary Christian romance, with a teensy bit of mystery thrown in. I would classify it as an edgy sweet romance. https://www.amazon.com/Secrets-Legacies-Mysterious-Christian-Romance/dp/B0DG5JC3D8
